PETROL CHAIN SAW FOR TREE SERVICE USER MANUAL
4. INSTALLING THE GUIDE BAR
AND CHAIN
WARNING! DO NOT START THE
CHAIN SAW BEFORE FITTING AND
ADJUSTING THE GUIDE BAR AND THE
CHAIN.
WEAR SAFETY GLOVES TO CARRY
OUT THESE OPERATIONS. THE
(CHAIN) CUTTING TEETH CAN CAUSE INJU-
RIES
1) Open the box containing the petrol chain saw
and remove the loose parts and the accesso-
ries, as shown in fig.2. The box contains the
following parts:
item 1 – Chain saw body
item 2 – Chain guide bar
item 3 - Chain
item 4 – Guide bar guard
Item 5 - Spark plug combination wrench.
SPIKE: The chain saw is supplied with a
spike as standard.
2) Position the chain saw body as shown in fig.3
and make sure that the safety (chain) brake is
disconnected (arrow fig.3).
3) Unscrew the nuts (fig.4 item 1) and remove
the brake cover.
4) Remove the plastic or cardboard shim (fig.4
item2) located between the chain brake cover
and the guide bar connecting plate. This shim
is used to hold in position the chain brake cover
for shipping.
DO NOT use it!
5) Turn the chain tensioner screw anticlockwise
(to unscrew it) (fig.5 item 1) to push back the
chain tensioner tooth (fig.5 item 2).
6) Fit the chain around the engine pinion (behind
the clutch unit) fig.6. The teeth on the top section
must be positioned as shown in the detail.
WARNING !! Correctly match the chain teeth with
the pinion teeth
7) Position the chain guide bar on the studs
(fig.7).
8) Insert the chain guide teeth inside the guide
bar groove (fig.8). Pull the guide bar to tension
the chain.
9) Refit the brake cover, making sure the
tensioner tooth is correctly inserted in the hole
(fig.7 item x) provided on the guide bar.
10) Screw the nuts (fig.9) but do not fully tighten.
Place the chain saw upside down to make sure
the chain is correctly fitted on the engine pinion
with the guide teeth engaged with the pinion.
11) Screw (clockwise) the chain tensioner screw
(fig.10). A correctly tensioned chain allows the
chain to be lifted (with 2 fingers) to make sure a
full guide tooth is visible (fig.10 item A).
12) Fully tighten the two nuts with the key pro-
vided (fig.9) by keeping the guide bar nose up.
Check that the chain slides freely in the guide bar.
NOTE!! The tension of a new chain must be
checked and adjusted (with engine off and brake
applied) after a few minutes of chain saw opera-
tion.
