Coaxial Cables
Tools Required :
Electrician’s hand tools. Amphenol crimper: ARF1118 with CTL-3 jaws. 0.100D and 0.429D.
The returning electrical signal from the remote heads is very small and is susceptible to
interference from electrical machinery and radio frequencies. To minimise this interference, a
double-shielded coaxial ethernet cable is used. This is a heavy, stiff cable, so a short, fl exible
‘patch cord’ using Belden 89907 cable is used to connect the ethernet cable ends to the
GasFinderFCr and the Remote Head or Probe.
Ethernet Cable Terminations
The Amphenol connector, part # 82-4426-1001, consists of 3 parts: ferrule, centre pin, and
body. A crimper (listed above) is required for the assembly. The sequence for the assembly
is as follows:
1. Slide the ferrule onto the cable and
strip the jacket, braid and dielectric
to the dimensions shown. All cuts
should be sharp and square.
Caution. Do not nick the braid, dielectric, or centre conductor.
Do not comb out the braid.
2. Insert the pin over the centre conductor so that it butts
up against the dielectric. The centre conductor should be
visible through the inspection hole in the pin.
3. Use the crimp tool with the 2.5mm(0.1”) die cavity. The
crimp should be between the inspection hole and the end
of the pin.
4. Slide the connector body over the cable so that the inner
ferrule slides under the braid. The centre pin will snap into
place in the body insulator. Verify that the centre pin is
fl ush with the face of the body.
5. Slide the outer ferrule over the braid and up against the
connector body.
6. Crimp the ferrule as shown in #6 using the crimp tool with
the10.9mm(0.429”) die cavity.
7. Connecting the patch cord to the ethernet cable.
8. Screw the N to BNC jack into the N connector and then
twist the BNC connector onto the jack.
