CHAPTER 13: Talk and Test Modules for the SCAN-LAN VI

TANDARD
On the LOSS, POWER, and MARGIN display screens, a test standard will be
displayed with an up and down arrow (
↑↓).
Using these standards allows the Talk
and Test Module to automatically determine pass/fail loss and length limits. At any
time, you can use the arrow keys to select a new cable standard.
13.4 Set Reference Power
Set Reference should be performed prior to testing. This function saves the loss
from the launch and subtracts them from the values of the actual cable under test.
The following reference setting procedure follows Method B per TIA/EIA-526-14A
(OFSTP-14A), also called the “One Jumper Reference.”
The Talk and Test Module measures both references simultaneously. One
reference is from the Main to the Remote, using Launch Cable A, as shown in the
figure on the next page. The other reference is from the Remote to the Main,
using Launch Cable B.
NOTE
Once the reference measurement has been made and you are ready to
begin testing, disconnect the launch cables as illustrated on the next
page. Do not disconnect the launch cables from the Transmit TX ports
after the Reference powers have been set.
