CHAPTER 7: Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
57
The remote data loopback test examines the
integrity of the data channel across the link. While
this test is in progress, it does not affect the normal
operation of the voice/fax channel, so you can use
the voice/fax channel to talk about the quality of
the data channel with someone at the other end.
To run the test, see Figure 7-7 and proceed as
follows:
1. Connect an asynchronous terminal to the DATA
CHANNEL connector of the local Multiserver
500.
2. Configure the local data channel for
asynchronous, and configure the asynchronous
channel to match your terminal equipment.
Refer to
Chapter 4
or
Chapter 5
for
configuration details.
3. Have the remote operator configure his data
channel and asynchronous channel.
4. Put the Multiserver 500 into remote data
loopback. To do this,
a. From the Command Port, enter
>DI REMD <cr>
or
b. From the LCD/keypad, enter through the
Diagnostics menu as shown below:

5. Type any data on the terminal connected in step
1 and verify that the data is echoed back as
typed.
6. Terminate the remote data loopback test as
described in
Section 7.2
. Verify that the TM
indicator light goes off.
