CHAPTER 6: Operation

Notes About Voice/Fax Channel Parameters
• Voice/fax channel parameters are configured
using two separate commands (from the
Command Port) or two separate menus (from
the LCD/keypad): Voice Channel and Analog
Interface.
• The voice/fax channel digitization rate is
determined by the setting of the data channel
rate. It is assigned the highest fixed rate within
the available bandwidth. Available bandwidth
equals composite rate minus guaranteed sync
channel rate minus overhead. Overhead is 400
bps for composite rates of less than 56 Kbps, and
800 bps for composite rates of 56 Kbps and
above.

ESSAGE
Any voice application shown in Figures 6-1 and 6-2
works for fax transmission simply by replacing the
telephone sets with fax machines. Make sure both
fax machines are powered up and programmed for
auto-answer. Then:
1. At the end from where you intend to initiate the
fax message, insert the paper, place the fax
machine off-hook, dial the number of the
remote fax machine (if applicable), and press
the START (or SEND) button on the fax
machine. Send the fax as you normally would.
2. At the completion of the fax transmission, the
voice/fax channel will return to the voice mode.
