Connecting a Slave SNMP Media Converter
Slave SNMP Media Converters are connected to a Master SNMP
Media Converter via a straight-through, twisted pair cable. Master and
Slave SNMP Media Converters communicate via an
RS-485 connection. Multiple Slave SNMP Media Converters are
connected in a daisy-chain configuration.
To connect a Slave SNMP Media Converter to the Master SNMP
Media Converter, plug one end of a twisted pair cable into the port
labeled “SLAVE” on the Master Module. Plug the other end of the
twisted pair cable into the port labeled “IN” on the Slave SNMP
Media Converter. See Figure 2.4.
If more than two Slave SNMP Media Converters are to be installed
and managed by the same Master SNMP Media Converter, plug one
end of a twisted pair cable into the port labeled “OUT” on the first
Slave SNMP Media Converter. Plug the other end of the cable into the
port labeled “IN” on the next Slave SNMP Media Converter. Follow
this procedure for each additional Slave SNMP Media Converter being
installed. See Figure 2.4.
NOTE: Slaves must be connected to a Master SNMP Media
Converter (or another Slave SNMP Media Converter connected to
a Master) or the Slave module must be removed for proper
operation.
LED Operation
SNMP Media Converters feature diagnostic LEDs. LEDs for each
port are located on the installed SNMP Manageable Modules.
Additional LEDs are located on SNMP Master and Slave Modules. The
combination of these LEDs provides information to help determine
where failures reside when they occur in your network.
NOTE: Refer to the installation guide included with the SNMP
Manageable Module for LED information.
