2. PRESENTATION
Many equipment and methodologies (sedimentation) are suggested for the measurement of air contamination.
Quality sampling requires performing equipment ensuring reproducible operation. Sampl’air Lite meets this
requirement.
Manufactured by BioMérieux S.A, the Sampl’air Lite is a bioimpactor whose aim is to measure the air
contamination level, using Petri dishes culture.
The impaction method:
Collection of micro organisms is by air aspiration, through a grid which is situated a few millimetres above a
Petri dish. The viable organisms in the air are impacted on the agar.

The flow rate is known (100L/min). The impacted volume is proportional to the impaction duration.
The number of microorganisms in the sampled air is easy to estimate by counting the CFU (Colony Forming
Unit) on the Petri dish. The most probable number is assumed, using the table of correspondence (see
appendix Number 2, in this manual).
The impaction technique is the most commonly used because it is reliable, easy to execute, economic
(standards Petri dish) and safe (sterilisation with a disinfectant and/or autoclave of the Sampling head).
Handy and user-friendly
Monobloc and portable the Sampl’air Lite is handy and easy to use. An infrared control supplied with the device
allows a remote controlled sampling.
The user interface consists of an intuitive numerical keyboard and a LCD screen.
