This chapter describes some of the more common network designs in which
the bridge might be used. More complex networks are usually extensions of
those described in this chapter. It is not intended to describe in detail how
to set up the bridges for use in the networks described, but enough
information is given to help locate the relevant sections of the
R
EFERENCE
chapter.
The Marlin Bridge is intended as a “boundary” rather than a hub product,
but all of the examples can be built with a combination of Marlin Bridge
and other Nautica bridge units, or with some of the Marlin Bridge units
fitted with optional expansion cards.
Each example is described using a common format, so that differences
between them can be assessed quickly and the examples most relevant to
your installation used as models. Each example has the following format,
although some parts may be omitted if not relevant to a given example:
•
Title
•
Diagram
•
Benefits
•
Operation
•
Installation
•
Optimisation
Some examples have variants which are described in the same way, but
these add information to the primary example rather than repeating all
information.
