External Trigger
= The external trigger function is used to control the exposure start without
having to use any other parameters. If the
Function
parameter of an input port is set to
"External Trigger" and no external trigger is applied, the camera immediately stops grabbing
images.
If this function is used and the
Encoder Mode
parameter is set to "CBR" or "CVBR" (see
page 33
), the camera’s sensor frame rate has to be set manually via the
Frame Rate Mode
parameter in the
Sensor
group (see
page 23
). The reason is that for those two encoder modes,
the encoder needs a constant bit rate as input. As this is difficult to achieve with external
triggers, which can be applied at irregular intervals, and because the camera does not measure
the current frame rate, you have to set a frame rate manually. For the encoder to be able to
calculate the desired bitrate for CBR and CVBR correctly, the frame rate mode should be set to
the same frame rate as the frequency of the triggers applied externally.
If the
Direction
parameter is set to output, the list of available functions will be:
User Output
= You can set the state of the output port by checking or clearing the
State
check
box on this tab. When the check box is checked, the port will be active, when the check box is
unchecked, the port will be inactive.
IR Filter Announce
= The output port will "announce" the position of the camera’s IR-cut filter.
When the filter is in the night position, the port will be active. When the filter is in the day
position, the port will be inactive. (This setting is only available on day/night models of the
camera.)
Strobe
= The camera will output a pulse on the output port that is synchronized to the start of
each image capture. This signal is useful for controlling things such as a strobe exposure lamp.
The
Strobe Delay [µs]
and
Strobe Duration [µs]
parameters (see below) are used to adjust
the characteristics of the strobe pulse.
Alarm Announce
= The output port will "announce" an alarm condition. When an alarm
condition is declared, the port will become active. The port will remain active for the time period
specified by the
Digital Output Hold Time [ms]
parameter (see
page 47
).
For this function to operate correctly, the
Action Enable
box must be checked on the
Digital
Output
tab in the
Alarm Actions
section of the
Alarm Handling
parameters (see
page 47
).
Invert
- Determines whether the operation of the port in regard to being active or inactive will
operate normally or be inverted.
Unchecked
= The port will operate normally.
Checked
= The operation of the port will be inverted.

page 85
for details about normal and inverted port operation.
State
- If the
Direction
parameter (see above) for the port is set to "Input", the
State
check box will
be read-only and will indicate the state of the input port. Checked means active and unchecked
means inactive.
If the
Direction
parameter (see above) for the port is set to "Output" and the
Function
parameter
is set to "User Output", the
State
check box can be used to set the state of the output port. Checking
the box makes the port active.
Strobe Mode
- If the
Function
parameter is set to "Strobe", the
Strobe Mode
parameter allows you
to choose between different ways of controlling strobe lighting because, depending on the model,
the strobe requirements of Basler cameras differ. Especially, whether the camera has a rolling or a
global shutter and whether it supports real-time triggering plays an important role. To find out
