This Frequently Asked Questions document was started on 13 September 2011 after a
relatively large amount of repeating questions on the UV-3R Yahoo Group mailing-list. A
document on Google Docs platform was created and the web URL posted to the list. Anyone
knowing the link was able to modify the content of the document, which had been initialized
with a list of topics that had already been answered through the mailing-list or were awaiting for
further study.
In less than 24 hours the preliminary FAQ working copy had collected enough contributions to
allow for a first official release of 11 pages in PDF format. Further additions to the FAQ in the
following weeks allowed to release new PDFs aperiodically, the one just before Christmas 2011
being the 5th UV-3R community approved reference document.
Given the origin of contributions, the FAQ is released under a Creative Commons license
defined as “Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0)”.

The Google Docs platform allowed everyone with little web surfing skills to contribute at the
UV-3R FAQ project, either actively with new contents or as a proof-reader and technical
revisor. The geographical spread of expertise, from Eastern Europe to US West Coast, and the
apparent time domain slowdown provided by the Earth rotation allowed a faster revision cycle
that contributed to the quick composition of this FAQ.
An analysis of the UV-3R FAQ community effort has been published on “K9YA Telegraph” in
January 2012 as “Using the Cloud” by Paul W3FIS. Another article by Paolo IK1ZYW has been
approved for Italian “Radio Rivista”.
