If no FM broadcast can be received, try the procedure described above for looking for cold
solder joints.
How to extend frequency range?
The frequency range of the two bands can be extended using the official programming software
and the programming cable. It is a trial and error procedure which might not work on all UV-3R
models.
Remember. This is a radio designed and optimized for VHF and UHF civil band (Part 90 in
USA). This applies to both circuitry and the supplied antenna. While reception outside of
original frequency range can work, transmitting will require at least a proper antenna or load
(the required impedance might not be 50 ohm, since the radio is operating outside the design
range).
Close the programming software and locate the settings.ini file in the install directory. A possible
path is “C:\Program Files\UV3R\” . Make a backup copy of the file, if you feel like. Edit the file
with a text editor (Notepad on windows) and locate the [ModelInfo] section. At first you may
modify as follows:
