Thermal derating
The high-power outputs of variant BNI IOL-314-S52-P071
allow the use of four ports with up to four amps of output
current with thermal derating.

The derating curves in Fig. 5-7 show continuous operation
(> 3 hours) under ohmic load in various use cases:
– A = Only one output is activated (1 of the 4 ports, e.g.
Port X04.01)
– B = Two outputs are activated (2 of the 4 Ports, e.g.
Port X04.01 and Port X06.01)
– C = Four outputs are activated (all 4 ports)
With non-continuous operation, the derating has a
reduced effect and depends on the duty cycle (on/off ratio)
(e.g.: 3 seconds on, 1 minute off).

Shielding and cable routing
Shielding
The connection to the higher-level IO-Link master and the
connection to the extension device is made with a
standard sensor cable.
Since the housings are made of non-conductive
material, interfering signals cannot flow through
the shielding to the FE. The shielding of the cable
should be connected to the FE (functional earth)
either on the sensor or module side. If connection
is not possible on the sensor side, the adapter
cable available from Balluff as an optional
accessory can be used. The adapter cable routes
the shielding of the cable to Pin 5 of the port and
thus to FE.
Digital sensors and actuators are connected to the
described hubs using standardized, unshielded sensor
cables.
Cable length
The IO-Link connection cable and the cable for connection
to the extension device may be max. 20 meters. The
connection cables between digital sensors and actuators
and hub may be max. 30 meters.
