PURGING PROCEDURE
Due to the effects air has on the efficiency in hydrostatic
drive applications, it is critical that the air is purged from
the system. These purge procedures should be
implemented any time a hydrostatic system has been
opened to facilitate maintenance or any additional oil has
been added to the system.
1.
Lift the rear tires of the mower off of the ground
using a floor jack or similar device.
C
hock the
front tires to keep the mower from moving.
2.
Locate the bypass valve on the transaxle. On
the
Outlaw extreme with 5400 transaxles, the
bypass
vlave is located towards the front inside
lower
portion of the unit as shown in 1A. On the
standard Outlaw with 4400 transaxles, the
bypass valve is located on top of the unit next to
the expansion tank port as shown in 1B.
3.
The bypass valves on either model are opened
by
turning the valve a quarter of a turn. With the
valves open, start the mower, release the parking
brake, and move the drive arms forward and
backward 10-12 times slowly. Turn off engine,
close bypass valves, and recheck oil level. Add
oil as necessary.
4.
It may be necessary to repeat these steps to
completely purge all air from the system if
performance is lacking. When the unit moves
forward and backward evenly at normal speed,
the purging is complete.
When adjusting the tracking on the mower, the length of
the pushrods can be changed by screwing the pivot joint
in or out on the ends of the rods. Shortening the overall
length of the rod slows the pump down. Lengthening the
rod will increase the speed of the pump.
