Chapter 4: When Something Goes Wrong

A714 Owner’s Guide

April 1998

Problems

Printer Not Operating

Cause

Action

Power cable not connected

properly

Check all cable connections. Check that the host

and power supply are both on. (The power

supply is turned on by plugging it into an outlet.)
Make sure the ground wire is properly

connected.
Check that the host or power supply is getting

power.

Paper empty

Check paper and add a new roll if necessary.

Paper jam

Turn the printer off.
Open the rear cover. Push the printhead carriage

away from the paper jam. Remove any jammed

paper or other obstructions.
Reload the paper if necessary, and then close the

cover.
Turn the printer back on.
Press the Paper Feed button to make sure the

paper is no longer jammed.

LED's Are Lit or Flashing

Cause

Action

Paper Status LED blinks red

A blinking Paper Status LED indicates that the

paper is empty or the cover is open.
Check paper and replace if necessary.
Check cover and close properly.

Paper Status LED steady red

Indicates that a hard failure, such as an incorrect

program checksum has occurred.
Contact a service representative. For more

information, see “Getting Service” on page 20.

Green Power LED not lit

Check all cable connections. Check that the host

computer and power supply are both on. The

power supply is turned on by plugging it into an

outlet.
