Appendix C: Circuit Breakers

The PM IPDU circuit breakers are designed to turn the power off to some or all of the PM IPDU
outlets in case the rated current is exceeded. The circuit breaker mechanism for each PM IPDU
model is explained in the following sections.

PM IPDU Units with One Circuit Breaker

Only one circuit breaker is used for the following units:

•

PM10-15A IPDU

•

PM10-20A IPDU

•

PM10-L20 IPDU

•

PM20-20A IPDU

•

PM20-L20 IPDU

•

PM20i-16A IPDU

•

PM20i-20A IPDU

PM IPDU Units with Two Circuit Breakers

Some PM IPDU models have two segments with a circuit breaker dedicated to protect each
segment:

PM10-L30A IPDU

•

PM10i-L30A IPDU

•

PM10i-32A IPDU

•

PM10i-32Au IPDU

•

PM20-L30A IPDU

•

PM20i-L30A IPDU

•

PM20i-32A IPDU

•

PM20i-32Au IPDU

The two-segment models and three-phase models have distinct behaviors when overloaded. See the
following descriptions.

PM10i IPDU

PM10i 30A and 32A models have two circuit breakers each. Both circuit breakers are designed to
protect different segments of the same circuit inside the unit. If either one of the circuit breakers
trips, only the outlets connected to that segment will be affected and the rest of the unit will remain
operative.
