12.0 How is it operated?
12.1 Control systems
It is important to have an effective control system to minimise running costs. An automatic time clock
thermostat with night setback should be fitted as a minimum. From this point, a number of options are
available to enhance the system. The room thermostat should be installed in the most lived in room, at
1500 mm from the floor and away from any cold draughts or external heat sources i.e. sunlight through the
window, bright lights, electrical appliances etc. In winter, do not turn off the heating circuit in which the
central room thermostat is located
.
12.2 Basic time clock thermostat
This gives a fixed water temperature control, set at the boiler, with the boiler turning on and off when the
central room thermostat senses changes in room temperature from the set points.
12.3 Multi zone control
By placing an additional room clock thermostat in each of a number of zones, electric valves fitted to the
Multitherm
manifolds for selected room circuits can be turned to low (off) or normal at pre-determined
times and temperatures.
12.4 Climate controlled
Using a modern Condensing Boiler and thermostat, together with an outdoor sensor the boiler will
maintain a constant room temperature by modulating the gas and water temperature to fit with the
changing out door temperature. This means as the evening temperature starts to fall outside the heating
system is anticipating this change and gently increases the water temperature to offset the colder
conditions. This is surely pure magic.
