Glossary

Terminology

ISDN

Integrated Services Digital Network) - digital network that combines the
different communication services, e. g. telephony, telefax groups 2 and 3,
data transmission, etc. Unlike analogue networks, ISDN uses digital trans-
mission.

J

Jitter Buffer

Buffers RTP packages, to compensate irregular transfer rates of the
Internet.

A high jitter buffer reduces short interruptions during the call. In return the
delay of the RTP packages increases.

L

LAN

Local Area Network - connects computers over company or home networks.
