3.3.3 Monitoring your hard disks with S.M.A.R.T
S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) monitors your hard disks
in real time and reports on various indicators of hard disk health. It is used to predict
possible hard disk failures and prevent you from losing your data unexpectedly.
To create a S.M.A.R.T test:
1. From the navigation pane, click
Disk
>
Disk Utilities
.
5. Click
Create Schedule
to specify the time when the test runs automatically and the
frequency of the test. Click
Create
when done.
NOTES:

for details about enabling the e-mail alert
service.
• If you do not enable the e-mail alert service, go to
Status > HD Status
or
Status > Log
to view the S.M.A.R.T test report.
6. Click
Start
to run a test immediately.
. In the
S.M.A.R.T Test
area, select the hard disk that you want to monitor.
. Select a quick test or an extended test.
4. Check
Send result by E-mail
to deliver the test report to a recipient by e-mail.
