INDEPENDENT POSITION DETERMINING – MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

A. This section covers that portion of the system which provides information to determine position
and is mainly independent of ground installations. This includes the FLYMAP L Multifunctional
Display/GPS.
B. The scope of maintenance is limited to the removal and installation of the components. The
installation instructions provided herein pertains only to the replacement of components already
installed in the aircraft and is not considered to be an installation instruction for the
implementation as a modification. For this, refer to the applicable Service Bulletin or contact the
manufacturer of the aircraft. For further information on the equipment, refer to the appropriate
publications of the equipment manufacturer. For overhaul and repair, the manufacturer of the
equipment has to be consulted.
C. FLYMAP L Multifunction Display/GPS
The FLYMAP L Multifunctional Display is a panel mounted multifunctional system with an
internal GPS receiver providing GPS-Navigation planning and the display of a great variety of
navigation, airspace and warning information in combination with the display of all primary
flight parameters in the form of a primary flight display. The Flymap system enables the display of
GPS navigation information in Jeppesen® aeronautical and standard ICAO cartographic maps, its
database contains an elevation model for terrain proximity warning. Interfaces to other sensors
and aircraft systems provide the display of additional information (weather information,
NOTAMs/METAR/TAF, positions of and collision warnings with other aircrafts), if the necessary
subsystems are installed. The FLYMAP Multifunctional Display System is approved for VFR
operation only and is not intended to be used as the primary source for flight parameters and
navigation data. For more information, refer to the Operator's Manual of the FLYMAP L.
The FLYMAP L is installed in a mounting frame located in the avionics rack in the midsection of
the instrument panel. GPS signals are received by an antenna mounted on a bracket that is
attached to the RH side support plate of the Instrument panel. If the FLYMAP L is also to be used
in the Primary Flight Display mode, the FLYMAP AHRS-Sensor has to be installed for the
acquisition of all flight parameters necessary to generate the primary flight display indication.
The AHRS-Sensor is mounted on a bracket attached to the mounting frame of the FLYMAP
behind the unit. Without this sensor, the Primary Flight Display mode is not available in the
FLYMAP System. The AHRS-Sensor itself needs a connection to the pitot and static pressure
system of the aircraft and contains an accelerometer as well as attitude sensors. The connection of
the sensor to the pitot and static pressure system of the aircraft is accomplished by the installation
of T-connector fittings and additional pressure lines. The FLYMAP System is protected by a circuit
breaker labelled “GPS”.
If a FLARM Collision Warning System is installed into the aircraft, the FLYMAP System may be
also connected to this system to display collision warnings and the positions of other aircrafts on
the map. For further information on the interface to other systems, refer to the FLYMAP L
