BRAKES
WARNING
Do not ride your vehicle with worn or
malfunctioning brakes! The brakes are
the most important safety system of
your vehicle, and using the bike with
brakes that are anything less than
p e r f e c t i s v e r y l i k e l y t o l e a d t o a
collision or upset, with consequent risk
of serious injury or death.
Check the brake pad wear, as shown on
page 97 (CHECKING THE BRAKE PAD
WEAR). Have your brakes serviced by
your Local

WARNING
Wet conditions seriously degrade the
performance of your brakes. When the
road is wet from rain, you should plan
to use double the normal stopping
d i s t a n c e s s i n c e b o t h t h e b r a k e s
themselves and the traction of the tires
o n t h e r o a d a r e r e d u c e d b y t h e
presence of water.
Water on the brakes from washing your
vehicle, or splashed up from wet roads,
or crossing puddles or ditches, can wet
the brakes enough to greatly reduce
their effectiveness. Failure to observe
these warnings may lead to serious
accidents and result in serious injury or
even death.
NOTE
Your vehicle is equipped with
disc brakes and two separate brake
systems.
The front brake system is equipped with
two discs, one on the right and one on the
left side of the front wheel.
The rear brake system is equipped with a
single disc on the right side of the rear
wheel.
The following information refers to a single
braking system, but applies to both braking
systems.
WARNING
The brakes are extremely important for
your safety. Do not use the vehicle if the
brakes are not in perfect working
c o n d i t i o n . A l w a y s c h e c k b r a k e
efficiency before riding.
WARNING
If the “feel” or position of the brake
lever changes, this may be due to
problems in the hydraulic brake system.
If you have any doubt regarding the
per fe ct fu nc ti on i ng o f you r b rake
system, or if the normal pre-ride checks
indicate any discrepancy, contact your

Dealer before riding.
WARNING
Pay special attention to the brake disc
and friction material, making sure that
they are neither dirty nor oily, especially
a f t e r m a i n t e n a n c e o p e r a t i o n s o r
inspections.
Check the brake line, make sure that it
is neither twisted, kinked nor leaking.
