SENSITIVITY CHECK
Figure 23: Sensitivity Check Panel
The last panel provides the user with a method for checking the
approximate sensitivity of a given device. The datasheet
specification for sensitivity is 80±3% LSBs/deg/sec. This panel
has been designed to use the nominal sensitivity in order to
calculate the angle of rotation experienced by the satellite board.
If the user has access to a firmly rooted straight edge, then this
panel can be utilized in the following way
1.
Place a flat edge of the satellite board firmly against
the desk top straight edge
2.
Press the Perform Sensitivity Check button
a.
Do not rotate the satellite board until instructed
by the evaluation GUI. The software must
perform an initial calibration step in order to
accurately calculate the angle of rotation
3.
Once the null calibration is performed, slowly rotate
the satellite board through 180° (90° can also be used)
a.
As the satellite board is approximately square, as
each adjacent side is brought flush with the
straight edge, this represents 90° of rotation
4.
Once the gyro graphic in the GUI has rotated through
180°, the measurement will stop. If the user finishes
rotating the device prior to the completion of the
measurement, firmly hold the satellite board against
the straight edge to ensure that no additional rotation
is applied to the device.
At the completion of the measurement the angle through which
the satellite board was rotated should appear in the GUI. This
measurement should be considered approximate, as error
sources incurred during the angle integration can alter the
results.
