Serial mode variable could be set as follows:

The SerialMode parameter is set to 1 by default.
The SerialMode parameter change will not disturb the present serial com-
munication link. Power should be recycled or a reset command should be
issued to activate the change in the serial mode setting.
It is strongly recommended to configure and to test 3050 analyzer in AM-
ETEK ASCII mode using user-friendly 3050 Configurator software. The
MODBUS RTU protocol mode should be used for monitoring purposes.
When designing a Modbus RS485 multi-drop communication system with
the Model 3050 analyzer, the system designer should consider the follow-
ing:
• Analyzer primary output is moisture concentration and analyzer sta-
tus codes. The update rate of the moisture concentration is one time
per minute or less. Polling of these registers more frequently than once
a second is not recommended.
• The maximum polling rate of a Modbus multi-drop system is deter-
mined by a number of factors including the number of devices on the
system, the number of registers being polled from each device, the
baud rate in half-duplex operation. Calculations, and possibly experi-
mentation, are needed to attain optimal system operation.
