9.2 Hull
Engine Mounting Bracket and Swim Platform
Your boat is equipped with an aluminum engine bracket
and swim platform mounted on the transom of the boat.
A boarding ladder attaches to a mount built into the swim
platform. There are two inspection hatches on the platform
that are used to access the inside of the bracket. Always make
sure these are secure and the ladder is properly stored before
starting the engines.
The engine bracket is exposed to a great deal of stress and
vibration that can cause the mounting bolts to loosen.
Maintaining proper torque for the engine bracket bolts is
extremely important as severely loose mounting bolts can
cause water leaks or damage to the bracket and transom. The
mounting bolts should be checked after the first 20 hours and
at least once each season thereafter to make sure they are tight
and there are no leaks.
A zinc anode is attached to the bottom of the bracket to protect
it from corrosion. A badly corroded andode can cause the
bracket to leak and will not provide proper protection. The
anode should be checked monthly and changed as needed.
Refer to the routine maintenance section for more information
on maintaining anodes.
The bracket should be checked for water frequently. It is
normal for a small amount of water to accumulate in the
bracket and it will have to be drained from time to time. A
drain plug in the bottom is provided to drain water from the
bracket when the boat is out of the water.
If the surface of the bracket is chipped or scratched, it should
be touched up with paint. The surfaces that are below the
waterline should be painted with antifouling paint if the
boat is left in water. You should contact a boat yard that
specializes in bottom painting, the bracket manufacturer or
Albemarle Customer Service for more information on bottom
painting.
COPPER BASED ANTIFOULING PAINTS DESIGNED
FOR FIBERGLASS HULL BOTTOMS CAN CAUSE
SEVERE CORROSION DAMAGE TO UNDERWATER
METALS AND SHOULD NOT BE USED ON ALUMINUM
FABRICATIONS OR FITTINGS, INCLUDING THE
ENGINE BRACKET AND ENGINE LOWER UNITS.
USE ONLY ANTIFOULING PAINTS RECOMMENDED
FOR ALUMINUM SURFACES. CONTACT YOUR
DEALER OR ALBEMARLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
FOR INFORMATION ON PROPER PAINTING
PROCEDURES.
Engine Mounting Bracket, Engines and Swim Platform
NEVER OPERATE THE BOAT WITH A BRACKET
THAT HAS DEVELOPED A LEAK. IF THIS SHOULD
OCCUR, STOP USING THE BOAT UNTIL THE LEAK
IS FOUND AND REPAIRED.
Boarding Ladder
The boarding ladder is mounted to special brackets in the rear
side of the cockpit when it is in the stored position. To use
the ladder, remove it from the storage clips and slide the studs
into the special bracket on the port side of the bracket. The
ladder floats and must be secured in the boarding position by
turning the cam lock on the ladder so it catches the bottom
of the transom ladder bracket. The ladder must be removed
from the transom bracket and properly secured in the cockpit
storage clips before starting the engines.
MOVING PROPELLERS ARE DANGEROUS.
THEY CAN CAUSE DEATH, LOSS OF LIMBS,
OR OTHER SEVERE INJURY. DO NOT USE THE
SWIM PLATFORM OR SWIM LADDER WHILE THE
ENGINES ARE RUNNING. STOP THE ENGINES
IF DIVERS OR SWIMMERS ARE ATTEMPTING
TO BOARD. ALWAYS PROPERLY STORE THE
LADDER BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINES.
