2.1.2.4
Connecting the winch to the antenna
The winch must be connected via the provided steel D-shackle to the second hole on the end
of the gin pole of the main antenna assembly. The gin pole is secured via a hinged joint to the
hinge plate of the antenna assembly and via a permanently installed length of rope running
from the top hole of the gin pole to a collar at the top of the bottom mast section.
The antenna has been designed to allow the rope connection from the winch to the antenna to
be permanent, so the main antenna assembly enclosure has been provided with a notch to
allow the cable to remain in place when the enclosure lids are closed and secured. This allows
for a more rapid deployment of the antenna, as well as ensuring the winch does not get used
for tasks it was not intended. As such, the rope leading from the winch can be secured to the
antenna during initial antenna installation and allowed to remain there throughout the
antenna‟s operational life time.
