8. Checking the servo operation
8-1. Checking the focus search and spindle kick no. 1
1) The focus search operation and spindle kick can be checked at the same time when the “PLAY” key is pressed in the “ALL SV OFF”
state while a disc is not inserted. At that time, the message “FOCUS SRCH” appears on the display.
2) When the check is completed, press the “STOP” key to return to “ALL SV OFF”.
8-2. Checking the focus search and spindle kick no. 2 (checking the “S” curve)
1) The focus search operation and spindle kick can be checked at the same time by pressing the “TURN/BAND” key on the remote
control unit in the “ALL SV OFF” state. At that time, the message “FOCUS CHECK” appears on the display. This operation is
repeated regardless of whether a disc is inserted or not. The “S” curve can therefore be checked when a disc is inserted.
2) When the check is completed, press the “STOP” key to return to “ALL SV OFF”.
8-3. Checking the focus servo and the sled error (EF balance)
1) Insert a disc.
2) Press the “MD MARK” key on the remote control unit to enter the following disc mode with DISC as follows:
• PIT DISC : The display shows “SELECT PIT”.
• MO DISC : The display shows “SELECT GRV”.
3) Press the “PLAY” key.
When the focus servo is operating normally, the message “FOCUS ON” is displayed after “FOCUS SRCH” and the focus servo is
turned on.
4) When the “DISPLAY” key is pressed on the remote control unit in the “FOCUS ON” state, the message “S.ERR=$**” appears on the
display. The DC offset of the EF balance can be checked.
S.ERR: Sled error (EF balance, DC offset)
If this value varies between 70 and 89, centering on $80, the
machine is operating normally.
5) When the check is completed, press the “STOP” key to return to “ALL SV OFF”.
8-4. Checking all servos on
1) When the “DISPLAY COLOR” key on the remote control unit is pressed in the “FOCUS ON” state, the tracking servo and sled servo
are both turned on.
Then all servo loops are turned on, and the message “ALL SV ON” appears on the display when all servo loops are normal.
2) When the check is completed, press the “STOP” key to return to the “ALL SV OFF” state.
