expect within the category. The canopy design actually ensures that the glider centres itself
without pilot input.
The special concept of single-surface technology translates to enhanced lift - meaning that the
lift that the UFO21 generates is more comparable to a conventional 26m² glider, and that’s
why launching is so easy. Even on the smallest of take-off locations, it’s possible to launch
effortlessly thanks to the compact dimensions of the UFO and its outstanding starting
behaviour.
Flying
At first launch, the UFO feels completely different to any other conventional paraglider due to
the construction. With the exclusion of the bottom sail, glider feedback is more direct in
nature. The overall impression in flight is confidence inspiring, yet agile. Climbing behaviour in
thermals is excellent, and the glider remains stable in all conditions.
Concept Inception
This project is the culmination of two designers dreams. Joe Keppler provided initial inspiration
for this concept. Together with Chief Designer Stephan Stieglair, they formulated a shared
design effort to evolve the single-surface concept to new levels.
The goals were clear – having speed and performance, being very light without compromising
durability, and of course – the glider should be easy to fly.
After a development period of approximately 2 years and several prototypes, the result is
outstanding. The new concept was performing incredibly from the very first prototype, and we
are more than extremely excited to bring you the final result of our hard work in developing
and testing the new AirDesign UFO.
