Take-off
The art of simplicity…
Irrespective of whether you’re adopting a forward or reverse launch technique, the UFO
inflates overhead with one step, and resists overshooting tendencies that you may normally
expect within the category. The canopy design actually ensures that the glider centres itself
without pilot input.
The special concept of single-surface technology translates to enhanced lift - meaning that the
lift that the UFO21 generates is more comparable to a conventional glider in size of 26m², and
that’s why launching is so easy. Even on the smallest of take-off locations, it’s possible to
launch effortlessly thanks to the compact dimensions of the UFO and its outstanding starting
behaviour.
In general:
The UFO rises quickly using forward or
reverse launch techniques. There is no
tendency for the canopy to hang back
during inflation. To forward (alpine)
launch in light, nil or even tail wind there
is no need to pull the risers hard. For
launching take A-line-risers (marked in
red).
Once the canopy is over head release the
brakes a little and accelerate by running
some steps, then pull the brakes again
and the glider lifts of easily.

Turning flight – Brake Line Length
Brake range of the UFO21 is at around 60cm, at UFO18 at round 55cm, at UFO16 is at around
45 - 47 cm, at UFO 14 range is at around 41-43 cm. The range is less progressive in pressure
