b. INSTALLATION OF THE DSP BOARD IN THE HOST COMPUTER
WARNING:
Do not perform the following instructions while the computer is turned on. Inserting or removing
interface boards from the computer while power is on may permanently damage the boards and/or the computer.
The computer, if purchased from ABB comes with the DSP board already installed. It is nevertheless desired to
verify that the DSP board is properly inserted in its slots and that all chips are properly inserted in their sockets.
This is especially important for the RAM chips. Please perform a visual inspection of the RAM chips before
applying power on the computer. You may refer to the pictures of the DSP above for their locations on the DSP
board. You may also perform a visual inspection of the proper insertion of the ISA connector in the slot. Should
it look outside or not evenly inserted in the slot, please push gently on the DSP board, making sure that it is well
inserted in the slots.
When the computer is not purchased from ABB, the DSP board comes delivered as a separate item. To install it
in the computer, please proceed as follows:
1. Make sure the power is removed from the computer
2. You must touch the case of the computer to make sure you are properly grounded otherwise you are taking
the risk of permanently damaging the board when inserting it in the computer. Using a ground strap is
recommended.
3. Remove the cover from the computer. Please refer to your computer manual for instructions.
4. Once the cover is removed, the mother board and other existing boards appear as follows:
