INTENDED USE
These products are designed to help reduce exposure to
hazardous noise levels and loud sounds.
These products are available in headband, foldable, neckband
and helmet mounted versions.
These products are tested and approved for use in different
wearing modes.
1. Headband (A) and Foldable (F) Version:
Over-The-Head only
2. Neckband (B) Version:
Behind-The-Neck only
3. Helmet Mounted (P3) Version:
Can only be used with speci

ed industrial safety helmets (see
Table 1 for further information on approved combinations where
(a) = Helmet Brand; (b) = Helmet Model; (c) = Ear Muff adapter).

Particular attention should be given to warning
statements where indicated.

WARNING
Always be sure that the complete product is:
- Suitable for the application;
- Fitted correctly;
- Worn during all periods of exposure;
- Replaced when necessary.
This product may be adversely affected by certain chemical
substances. Contact 3M for additional information.
Leave the area immediately if the hearing protector becomes
damaged.
The
¿
tting of hygiene covers to the cushions may affect the
acoustic performance of the ear muffs.
Never modify or alter this product. Replace parts only with
original 3M spare parts.
Ear muffs, and in particular cushions, may deteriorate with use
and should be examined at frequent intervals for cracking and
leakage, for example.
The acoustic seal may be adversely affected by wearing other
equipment, such as spectacles, respirators etc. This may reduce
attenuation. If in doubt, contact your safety of
¿
cer or 3M.
When worn, hearing protectors reduce ambient sounds which
may affect warning signals and vital communication. Always
ensure that you select the right product to match the working
environment so that vital communication and emergency sounds
remain audible.
Helmet mounted ear muffs complying with EN352-3 are of
'medium size range' or 'small size range' or 'large size range'.
'Medium size range' helmet mounted ear muffs will

t the
majority of wearers. 'Small size range' or 'large size range'
helmet mounted ear muffs are designed to
¿
t wearers for whom
'medium size range' helmet mounted ear muffs are not suitable.
Proper selection, training, use and appropriate maintenance are
essential in order for the product to help protect the wearer from
noise hazards.
Failure to follow all instructions on the use of these personal
protection products and/or failure to properly wear the complete
product during all periods of exposure may adversely affect the
wearer's health, lead to severe or life threatening illness or
permanent disability.

HELMET MOUNTED VERSION APPROVED COMBINATIONS
The helmet mounted version ear muffs are supplied with
different adapters designed to
¿
t a variety of industrial safety
helmets with speci
¿
ed head size range: Small (S), Medium (M)
and Large (L).
These ear muffs should be
¿
tted to and used only with the
industrial safety helmets listed in the user instructions.
FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
Prior to
¿
tting, inspect the product to ensure it is not damaged. If
this is discovered dispose of immediately and obtain a new pair.
Brush excess hair aside and remove any ear jewellery that may
affect acoustic seal before attempting to
¿
t the hearing protector.
Headband Version
1. Pull the cups apart and place the ear muffs over the ears so
that the cushions form a snug seal around the ears (Figure 1).
2. Adjust the height for optimum comfort and
¿
t by sliding the
cups up or down the yolk whilst holding the headband in place
(Figure 2).
3. Shows the product correctly
¿
tted (Figure 3).
4. Folding the headband (applies to foldable version only): Slide
the cup up the yolk and collapse the headband making sure the
cushions lie snugly against each other without crease (Figure 4).
Helmet Mounted Version
Fitting the cup (Figure 5) Push the attachment blade
¿
rmly into
the slot on the side of the helmet until it clicks into place.
Working position (Figure 6) With the cups over the ears press
the wire bands inwards until you hear a click on both sides
indicating a
¿
rm seal. If necessary adjust the cups by sliding up
or down until they form a snug seal around the ears. Ensure the
cups and wire band do not chafe against the head harness or
edge of the helmet which may result in acoustic leakage.
Stand-by position (Figure 7) Lift the cups to the
¿
xed stand-by
position. In a noisy environment the ear muffs must be worn in
the working position at all times.
Parking position (Figure 8) First lift cups to the stand-by position,
then rotate them up to the next
¿
xed position.
IMPORTANT: Do not press the cups onto the helmet shell as this
will lock the spring in the ear muff arm and damage the
attachment slot on the side of the helmet and the sealing cushion.
Storage position (Figure 9) When the helmet is not in use, lower
the ear muffs and press them inward. Keep the cups clean and
dry and store at normal room temperature.
FIT CHECK
When hearing protectors are correctly worn your own voice
should sound hollow and sounds around you should not sound
as loud as before.
For optimum noise reduction the cushions should form a snug
¿
t
against the head with no interference of the seal by any objects
e.g. respirator headbands or spectacles arms. The cups should
completely enclose the ears. If you are unable to
¿
t these ear
muffs correctly and comfortably contact your safety of
¿
cer or 3M
for further advice.
