BPS12 Hardware Manual
5.2
Preparation for Installation
5.2.1
Selecting a Site
5.2.1.1
Earth Ground
You need to ensure a protective earth ground for proper installation of the BPS12. Verify that the
resistance to ground is less that 0.1
Ω
between the equipment frame and earth ground. A decent
earth ground is normally implemented with a copper rod (about 16 mm (0.6”) diameter) driven
at least 4 m (12 ft.) into moist soil. To improve conductivity, salt or magnesium sulphate can be
added to the soil surrounding the rod to a depth of 200 mm (0.6 ft.); this procedure may require
replenishing.
5.2.1.2
Temperature
You should install the BPS12 in an environment where there is ample air flow to circulate the air
around the product and the temperature does not go below 0°C and does not exceed 30°C.
Prolonged exposure to temperatures greater the 30°C may reduce the lifetime of the internal
batteries of the BPS12.
Warning
Installing the BPS12 in an environment where the temperature is outside the range
0°C ~ 30°C may result in bodily injury and damage to the BPS12 or surrounding
equipment. You will also void your warranty.
5.2.1.3
Ventilation
The BPS12 contains two fans, located on the right side of the device, that circulate air through the
sides of the chassis.
Important
Do not cover the slots and openings on the left or right side of the BPS12. These
openings provide ventilation and protection against overheating.
5.2.1.4
Rack Space
If possible, install the rack mountable system in a 19" rack or cabinet
1
nearby the corporate
networking equipment. The height used is 3 RU. See section 5.3.2 on page 24 for information
about the requirements of the equipment rack.
5.2.1.5
ac Power Requirements
The BPS12 uses ac power as its primary power source. You can connect multiple BPS12s in parallel
to increase backup duration during an ac power failure. The combined load current for systems
connected in parallel must not exceed 10 A.
1. You may purchase extender brackets if the equipment bay is 23" instead of 19". Check with your Zultys representative
for the part number and pricing of these brackets.
