Making the Connections
Connecting your cable modem is simple. Typical connections are
shown below.

Note:
A splitter, amplifier, and high-pass filter may also be re-
quired; your service provider will advise you. The
Troubleshoot-
ing
appendix includes a diagram illustrating such a setup (page 29).
CAUTION:
Place the modem so that there is one inch of free
space between its top and sides and any other de-
vice or the wall. Do not block the vents in any way.
Failure to allow proper air circulation can result in
serious damage to the modem.
Do not place any items on top of the modem while
it is on.
Do not place the modem near a heating or air con-
ditioning duct, in direct sunlight, or anywhere sus-
ceptible to drastic temperature changes.
