• Always use full throttle when you cut.
• Reduce the speed to idle after every cut.
CAUTION: If you run the engine for too
long at full throttle and without any load,
for example without resistance from the
saw chain when you cut, this can lead to
serious engine damage.
• Set the spiked bumper (if one is fitted) into the trunk
and use it as a lever then you apply cutting feed
force.
What is kickback?
WARNING: Kickback can happen very
suddenly and violently; kicking the
chainsaw, guide bar and saw chain back at
the user. If this happens when the saw chain
is moving it can cause very serious, even
fatal injuries. It is vital you understand what
causes kickback and that you can avoid it by
taking care and using the correct working
technique. By being prepared you reduce
the risk.
The word kickback is used to describe the sudden
reaction that causes the chainsaw and guide bar to jump
off an object when the upper quadrant of the tip of the
bar, known as the kickback zone, touches an object.
Kickback always occurs in the cutting plane of the guide
bar. Normally the chainsaw and guide bar are thrown
backwards and upwards towards the user. However, the
chainsaw may move in a different direction depending
on the way it was being used when the kickback zone of
the guide bar touched the object.
Kickback only occurs if the kickback zone of the guide
bar touches an object.
To prepare the product for use in the
tree
1. Do a check of, fuel, start and warm up the product.
This should be done by the ground worker.
2. Engage the chain brake.
3. During tree maintenance work above ground level
the product must be secured. Fit the product with a
suitable strop as an attachment to the operator's
harness.
a) Attach one end of the strop around the rope
eyelet on the rear of the product.
Note: The strop is a fail safe where if the
operator loses control of the product, the strop
will prevent the product from falling to the
ground. The recommended primary securing
method is the belt eyelet to be attached to the
sequiring hook on the operator's harness.
However, if the strop is used as a primary
securing method, the product must be lowered to
the full extent of the safety line and not dropped
from working height to the end of the safety rope.
