SECTION 1 – INSTALLATION
GENERAL
This instruction describes the installation of a Model
YR Rotary Screw Liquid Chiller. The standard unit is
shipped as a single factory assembled, piped, wired and
nitrogen or refrigerant charged package. This unit re-
quires a minimum of field labor to make chilled water
connections, condenser water connections, refrigerant
atmospheric relief connections, and electrical power
connections.
YR units can also be shipped dismantled when re-
quired by rigging conditions, but generally it is more
economical to enlarge access openings to accommo-
date the factory assembled unit.
The services of a Johnson Controls representative will
be furnished to check the installation and perform the
initial start-up of all units in accordance with the con-
tract.
CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS
Construction drawings are furnished for each job as
noted in
. These drawings must
be carefully followed and used in conjunction with this
installation instruction, to en sure proper installation of
the unit.
In event of any differences between drawings and this
instruction, the drawings shall supercede this instruc-
tion.
INSTALLATION RESTRICTIONS
No valves or connections should be opened under any
circumstances because such action will result in loss of
the factory refrigerant or nitrogen charge.
Do not dismantle or open the unit for any reason except
under the supervision of a Johnson Controls represen-
tative.
When units are shipped dismantled, notify the nearest
Johnson Controls office in ample time for a Johnson
Controls representative to supervise rigging the unit to
its operating position and the assembly of components.
Do not make final power supply connections to the
compressor motor or control center.
Do not charge the system with oil.
Do not attempt to start the system.
When chiller is charged, do not run hot water (100°F,
38°C max.) or steam through the evaporator.
The Johnson Controls Warranty will be
voided if the restrictions are not followed.
