WARNING: Disconnect and 

ground the spark plug wire as 

instructed in the separate engine 

manual.

1.  The chute deflector on your mower may be held in an 

upright position by a block for shipping purposes only. 
This shipping block must be removed and discarded 
before the mower is put into operation. See Figure 1.
a.  Pull the chute deflector up towards engine.
b.  Remove the block and carefully lower the chute into 

operating position, keeping fingers out of the way.

2.  Perform the following sequence for handle setup:

a.  Pull up and back on the upper handle to raise the 

handle from position A into the operating position 
B. See Figure 2.

b.  Make sure the carriage bolt is seated properly in 

the handle. Tighten knobs securing upper handle to 
the lower handle.

3.  If satisfied with height of handle, tighten knobs at 

the ends of the lower handle shown in Figure 3. For 
convenience of operating, you may adjust the handle 
height as follows:
a.  Remove the knobs shown in Figure 3 and remove 

the lower handle.

b.  Position each handle bracket stud into the top hole 

in the lower handle. See Figure 3 inset.

c.  Tighten the knobs. 

4.  Insert post on cable ties into holes provided on the 

lower handle. Pull cable tie tight and trim excess. See 
Figure 4.
