CAMSHAFTS

INSTALLING THE CAMSHAFTS
1. Install:
camshaft sprockets
Be sure to set the sprockets in the specified
position as shown in the figure.
Temporarily tighten the bolts in this stage.
A Exhaust side
B Intake side
2. Install:
camshaft (exhaust)
camshaft (intake)
a. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise until
the TDC mark
a
is aligned with the pickup
coil mark b .
Do not turn the crankshaft during the cam-
shafts installation. Damage or improper
valve timing will result.
b. Fit the timing chain onto both camshaft
sprockets and install the camshafts.
Install the exhaust camshaft 1 first, then the
intake camshaft

.
Install the camshafts with the punched mark
facing upward.
Keep the timing chain as tense as possible on
the exhaust side.
c. Install the camshaft caps 3 with dowel pins.
Make sure that each camshaft cap is installed
in its original place by reference to its em-
bossed identification mark, as follows:
Intake: I
Exhaust: E
Install the camshaft cap with the arrow mark
pointing towards the right side of the engine.
Temporarily tighten the bolts in this stage.
