4.3.3
Inter-beam Sampling
Beam pockets are created between large ceiling beams. The protection of beam structure ceilings should
follow local codes and standards requirements or through an alternate solution by a Performance Based
Design approach. Where protection of the inside of beam pocket is required, a rigid pipe may extend vertically
from the sampling pipe upwards into the space between the beams (E). At the top end the direction of the pipe
is changed to horizontal. The end of the horizontal sampling pipe is capped with a sealed end cap which may,
or may not have a sample hole in it (C). A sampling hole is drilled just before the endcap (D). Underside beam
sampling and/or inside beam sampling can be used. Refer to Figure 4-12 on page 15.
