Sharp edges and abrasive surfaces
Do not expose the flexible anchor line to sharp
edges or abrasive surfaces that can cut, rip,
or rub against the fibers and weaken them. If
necessary, use protective equipment.
8. Inspection, maintenance and storage
Fall arrest devices must be properly inspected,
maintained and stored. This increases the life
of the equipment and ensures a more reliable
product.
Inspection
The fall arrest device must be inspected by
the user before each use and must undergo
an annual visual inspection by a competent
person, other than the user, who is certified by
the manufacturer. Detailed inspection results
and inspection data can be recorded on the
included inspection log sheet.
Fall arrest devices which are more highly
loaded in any way due to more severe environ-
ments require more thorough inspection.
If any defects are found, the line must be
replaced immediately. If case of doubt, consult
XSPlatforms or the supplier.
Maintenance
Compressed air may be used to remove debris
from the moving components of fall arrest
devices. Any remaining dirt should be removed
using water and a mild detergent.
Do not use sharp or hard tools to clean the
anchor line and solvents or acids may never be
used. Rinse anchor lines well using clean water
and allow to dry in a cool location away from
the sun. Use compressed air to remove any
excess water. Do not use a laundry dryer or
heat source to dry the equipment.
Dry metal components thoroughly with a cloth.
All buckles, adjusters, closures and eyes must
be lubricated with silicone regularly to protect
functionality. However always ensure the line
remains free of any silicon, oil or grease.
Storage
Optimally, the fall arrest device anchor line
should be stored loose in an area that is room-
temperature, dry, dark and ventilated.
The lines should be preferably laid in a box
or hung up. Do not expose them to harmful
gases, ultraviolet rays (the sun), or caustic
materials. Ensure this user manual is placed
near the lines or in a location where the user
can quickly reach it.
9. Transport
Ensure the fall arrest device is not exposed
to adverse influences during transport as de-
scribed in the section “Limitations on use.”
10. Fall arrest device labeling
XSPlatforms fall arrest devices are labeled with
the name of the manufacturer
“XSPlatforms,” the model/type, the number of
the standard(s) it complies with “EN 360,” the
traceability number such as a serial number or
batch number and the normalized pictogram
indicating the user manual must be read prior
to use.
Always read and follow the warnings
and instructions prior to use!
The “CE 0321” number indicates that
XSPlatforms mobile fall arrest devices for flex-
ible lines satisfy this European Directive.
The arrow shown on the fall arrest device
indicates the direction of the suspension point
from the flexible anchor line.
The marking, e.g. “D10.5mm (0.413 in)” indi
-
cates that this fall arrest device must be used
with a 10.5 mm (0.413 in) flexible anchor line.
11. Lifespan
The lifespan of the fall arrest device greatly
depends on the frequency of use, how well it
is cared for, and the environment in which it is
used and stored.
Despite due care, both the fall arrest device as
well as the flexible anchor line are subject to an
aging process.
