4.4 Diode Test Function
With this function you can test diodes and other semiconductors for continuity
and blocking function and determine their functionality.
Important Notice!
•
Never connect the measuring probes to a power source while using this
function. This may destroy the unit.
Procedure for Measuring Diodes
1. Set the rotary function switch (3) to the position “
/
“.In the
Display the correct measuring inputs are indicated as filled symbols
(20).
2. Connect the red probe to the V/
Ω
/
input (9) and the black probe to
the COM input (10).
3. Make sure the component or circuit to be measured is voltage-free.
4. Place the probes to the component or circuitry to be tested. The result
in Volt can now be read from the display.
Hints
•
Connect the red probe to the anode of the diode (end of diode without ring
marking) and the black probe to the cathode.
•
Of a value of up to 3 V is displayed, the component is working correctly in
forward direction; the forward voltage is displayed. If the overload symbol
“1” is indicated, the continuity is interrupted (the diode is defective).
•
Now turn the diode around (Red + to cathode and Black – to the anode). If
the overload symbol “1” is indicated now, the diodes blocks, which means
it is working correctly in this direction. If a voltage value is displayed, the
diode does not work correctly and is defective.
