Using a 1/16" diameter drill bit, drill one pilot hole through
each side of both nylon mounting plates to accept the four
M2 x 5 wood screws. Again, be careful not to drill through
the top of the wing.
❑
Install and tighten two M2 x 5 wood screws in each nylon
mounting plate. These screws will provide lateral support for
the mounting plates.
❑
Slide one wheel onto each main gear axle and use one wheel collar and set screw to hold each wheel in place. After
tightening the set screws, double-check that the wheels spin freely.
IMPORTANT
All three wheels are the same diameter, but two of the wheels have smaller diameter axle holes. The one
wheel with the larger diameter axle hole is used on the nose gear strut.
❑
Push the prebent loop in each landing gear strut wire
through the molded slot (from the front) in the nylon mounting
plates.
☞
Make sure that the prebent loop is pushed completely
into the slot.
Step 2: Installing the Nose Gear Assembly
❑
Using a modeling knife, carefully cut a shallow recess in
the bottom of the fuselage for the plywood nose gear mounting
plate. The mounting plate should be centered over the
fuselage centerline and the back edge of the mounting plate
should be even with the inside edge of the battery tray.
IMPORTANT
The recess should be cut deep enough so
that when the mounting plate is glued into place it is flush with
the bottom of the fuselage. Don't glue the mounting plate into
place yet!
❑
While holding the plywood mounting plate in alignment, carefully hand-drill an 11/64" diameter hole through the bottom
of the fuselage, using the predrilled hole in the mounting plate as a guide.
Special Tip:
We suggest hand-drilling the hole through the fuselage to minimize damage to the surrounding foam.
If you use an electric drill to drill the hole, the speed of the drill will likely tear up the foam. For overall strength, you
want to be careful not to damage the foam in this area.
❑
After installing both main gear struts, look from the front of the airplane to ensure that both wheels point straight ahead.
If they don't, bend the axles and or struts slightly until you are satisfied with the alignment.
