Procedure
1. Adjust the side lays to 320mm.
2. Switch off the power and disconnect from the mains supply.
3. Open the staple lid and unscrew the two orange fixing screws. The clincher
guard plate (253-048 steel, guide plate) can now be lifted clear of the
BookMaster.
4. Remove the rear panel.
Checking Edge Staple Solenoid Travel
5. Manually actuate the solenoid and measure the solenoid travel i.e. from the
solenoid body to the adjustment nut. The recommended adjustment is
14mm. If adjustment is required:-
• Turn the nut clockwise to reduce the travel.
• Turn the nut anti-clockwise to increase the travel.
Positioning Edge Staple Solenoid
The edge staple solenoid assembly is mounted on to the machine via four slot-
ted holes in the bracket. These slots give the assembly a variable fixing posi-
tion.
6. Replace the clincher guard plate (if previously removed for checking the
solenoid travel).
7. Position yourself so that you can look down into the BookMaster infeed
and loosen the four solenoid assembly fixing screws.
8. Position the solenoid assembly so that the edge staple latch is as close as
possible to the clincher guard, but not protruding into the paper path.
Tighten the fixing screws.
9. Looking down into the BookMaster infeed, manually actuate the solenoid
and check that the latch extends to the edge staple control wheel suffi-
ciently.
10. With the solenoid actuated, place a single sheet of paper into the machine
and make sure that it cannot pass the latch.
11. Replace rear panel and test that the machine functions correctly.
3.2.6 Replacing the Staple Latch Solenoid
Refer to IPC 964-410 - BookMaster Standard, Issue 1 - Figure 25.
1. Set the fold axis to approximately 210mm.
2. Switch off and disconnect from the mains power supply.
3. Remove both side panels and the fold latch cover panel.
4. Unclip the front section of the paper catch wire frame and remove from the
machine.
5. Undo the four, rear wire frame fixing bracket screws and lift the frame
(with brackets) out of the machine.
6. Disconnect the staple latch solenoid wires from the two terminals on the
underside of the solenoid.
7. Remove the two cheese head fixing screws, and lift the solenoid assembly
