Welding on the carrier or harvester head
IMPORTANT: Electrical welder current can damage
electrical components. Always ensure that you
isolate the electrical system before welding.
NOTE: turning the switch to the OFF position
is not sufficient.
1. Park the carrier and place the harvester head on a
flat, even surface.
2. Turn the Waratah switch to the OFF position.
3. Turn off any electronics that are wired directly from
the battery.
4. Turn off the main power to carrier.
5. Disconnect the carrier battery, followed by the
connectors on the base and cab controllers.
6. Disconnect the Waratah control module and PC
connectors when welding on the harvester head.
7. Disconnect the J1, J2, and J3 plugs from the head
module (HHC) when welding on the harvester head.
Disconnect the base module, PC, and flexbox
connectors when welding on the carrier.
8. The attachment is manufactured from high-tensile
steel, so only use low-hydrogen (E11018-M) welding
rods on it.
9. Clean the area of any oil, paint, and rust contaminants.
These would make the weld brittle
10. Ensure the welding earth is directly attached to the
item being welded.
11. Preheat weld area according to the table below.
NOTE: Measure the temperature 300 millimetres
(11.8 inches) from the weld in each direction
for a good heat soak.
Metal Thickness
Pre-heat Temperature
6–20 mm (0.2–0.8")
20–150 °C (68–302 °F)
20–50 mm (0.8–2.0")
50–175 °C (122–340 °F)
12. When welding multiple runs, allow temperature to drop
down to specification before starting the next run.

13. Allow the weld to cool slowly. Rapid cooling can cause
cracking.
14. Re-connect the connectors to the controllers, the
harvester head, the solenoid, and the sensor harness.
15. Re-connect the carrier battery.
