6.3 Updating the Firmware
When new firmware is released, you can use a CF card to update the firmware in the nextbeat.
You can check the nextbeat's current firmware version in the Preferences screen.

Have a blank CF card (Type 1 card) ready.

Download the firmware update files to your CF card from the nextbeat website
(http://www.nextbeat.net).
Download the files by following the instructions on the website.
Do not store any music files on the CF card. The update file should be the only file on the card.

Turn off the nextbeat.

Insert the CF card into the CF card slot and turn the nextbeat on.
The firmware update screen appears.

Update the firmware by following the on-screen instructions.
Press
to start updating. Pressing any other button cancels updating.
[Important]
Do not remove the CF card, detach the portable unit or turn the nextbeat off during updating.
Doing so will prevent you from restarting the nextbeat.

When updating is completed, turn the nextbeat off and remove the CF card.
After updating ends, you cannot turn off the portable unit.
Use forced shutdown (P.35) or perform step

below.

Insert the CF card containing music tracks into the CF card slot and turn the nextbeat on.
Check that the track selection screen appears.
When updating ends, sampling data is cleared.
6.4 Replacing the Batteries
If the portable unit quickly runs out of power, the batteries may have run down.
Replace them with 4 AA-size alkaline batteries (commercially available).

Open the battery
compartment on the back of
the portable unit.

Slot the battery
compartment cover back
into place.
Push in the catch on the
cover to release the lock and
push the cover upwards.
Check the orientations
of the + and - symbols.
To ensure stable, uninterrupted operation, we recommend that you load batteries into the portable unit
before using it.
