Measuring spot size - Distance to Spot Ratio (D/S)
In order to obtain precise measuring results, the object to be measured must
be larger than the measuring spot of the IR thermometer. The measured
temperature is the average temperature of the measured area. The smaller the
object to be measured, the shorter the distance to the IR thermometer has to
be. The exact size of the measuring spot is indicated in the following diagram.
Furthermore, it is printed on the device. For precise measurements, the object
to be measured should be at least twice the size of the measuring spot. The
focus of the device is 914 mm.

Emission ratio
The emission ratio is a certain value which is used for describing the energy
emission characteristic of a material. The higher this value, the more radiation
a material can emit. This is indicated by means of the emission ratio. To obtain
accurate measuring values for different materials with the IR-1001A, an
emission ratio between 0.10 and 1.0 can be adjusted. Please find enclosed a
list containing the emission values of several materials.
For compensation, the surface of shiny parts can be covered with adhesive
tape or matte black paint. It is not recommended to measure shiny materials or
metallic surfaces directly.
The device cannot measure through transparent surfaces such as e.g. glass. It
will measure the surface temperature of the glass instead.

stabilization to accommodate to the new ambient temperature before use.
• Do not expose the device to high temperatures for a longer period of time.
• Do not expose it to dusty and humid ambient conditions. Store the device in
the enclosed storing case after use in order to prevent contamination of the
lens.
Laser warning!
Never point the laser either directly or (due to reflecting surfaces)
indirectly at the eyes. Laser radiation might cause irreparable
eye damage. Deactivate the laser beam when measuring near
human beings.
