DIGITAL STORAGE OSCILLOSCOPE

ITEM NO.: 1361294 / DSO-1074D (70 MHz, 4 CH)

ITEM NO.: 1361295 / DSO-1104D (100 MHz, 4 CH)

INTENDED USE

The digital storage oscilloscope is intended for visually displaying electric measurements and signals. The

probe heads connect via BNC plug.
Measured signals can be saved and displayed on the screen as reference. On-screen menus allow for

controlling the device.
The max. input values which are shown on the device must not be exceeded. If necessary, use divider

probe heads or attenuators.
The device must only be connected to and operated by an isolated ground receptacle of the public power

grid.
Any other than the intended use described above might result in product damage and furthermore cause

hazards such as short-circuit, fire, electric shock, etc.
The whole product must not be modified or rebuilt and the housing must not be opened.
Measurements in damp locations or outdoors or under adverse conditions are not permissible.
Adverse ambient conditions are defined as such:

 - wetness or excessive humidity,
 - dust and flammable gases, vapors or solvents,
 - thunder and lightning or similar conditions e.g. strong electrostatic fields, etc.

These brief instructions explain the safety precautions you should follow to make operating the device as

safe as possible. The English operating instructions explain the individual functions of the device in detail.

The instructions are available in the main directory on the CD provided. In addition to that, the oscilloscope

also features a help menu (“Help” button).
All safety warnings in the quick start guide and operating instructions must be adhered too.

DESCRIPTION OF SYMBOLS

The device left the factory in a safe and perfectly working technical condition.
To maintain this condition and ensure safe operation, the user must observe all safety instructions and

warnings included in these instructions. Please observe the following symbols:

The exclamation mark within a triangle alerts the user to important information that must

be adhered to.

The triangle containing a lightning symbol warns against danger of electric shock or

impairment of the electrical safety of the device.

The arrow symbol alerts the user to the presence of important tips and notes on using

the device.
This device is CE compliant and fulfills all applicable European guidelines. Warning! This

is a class A equipment. The equipment can cause radio interference in residential areas;

in such a case, the user can be asked to perform appropriate measures.

CAT I

Measurement category I for measurements on low-voltage signals and controls without

high-energy discharging.

CAT II

Only in combination with passive probe heads:
Measurement category II for measurements on household appliances that are

connected to the mains via mains plug. This category also includes all smaller

categories (e.g. CAT I for measuring signal and control voltages).

Protective ground connection, safety class 1. This screw/connector must not be loosened.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Please read the quick start guide and operating instructions before operating the device;

they contain important information on the correct use.

•  Damage caused by non-observance of the instructions will void the warranty/guarantee. We

are not liable for any consequential damage!

•  We are not liable for property damage or injuries caused by improper use or non-observance

of safety instructions! Such circumstances will void the warranty!

•  Unauthorized modifications and/or alterations to the product are not permitted due to safety

and approval reasons (CE).

•  The product design complies with Protection Class 1. Only use a proper, earthed wall socket

(100 - 240 V~) of the public power grid as voltage supply.

•  The wall socket must be located near the device and be easy to access or it must feature an

emergency cut-off mechanism.

•  Measuring devices and appliances operated via mains supply must be kept out of reach of

children. Use extreme caution when children are present.

•  First connect the measuring cable to the oscilloscope and then connect the probe head to

the signal measurement circuit to be tested. After measuring, first disconnect the measuring

contacts from the measurement circuit and then disconnect the measuring cable from the

oscilloscope.

•  Exercise extreme caution when handling voltages >50 V/AC or >75 V/DC! Even at such

voltages you can receive a life-threatening electric shock upon contact with electric wires.

•  Always check the your meter and test leads for damage(s) before each measurement. Never

conduct measurements if the protective insulation is damaged (torn, missing, etc.).

•  To prevent electric shock, make sure not to touch the connections/measuring points to be

measured directly or indirectly during measurement.

•  When measuring, never reach beyond the tangible marking of the grip area on the probe.

There is a risk of lethal electric shock!

•  Do not use the device shortly before, during or shortly after a thunderstorm (lightning! /

high energy over voltage). Please make sure that your hands, shoes, clothing, the floor, the

measuring device, test leads, switches, switching components, etc. are dry.

•  Do not use the device in rooms or under adverse conditions, in/under which inflammable

gases, vapors or dusts are or might be present.

•  Avoid use in the direct vicinity of:

 - strong magnetic or electromagnetic fields
 - transmitting antennas or high-frequency generators.

Failure to do so may falsify readings.

•  Only use measuring leads or measuring accessories adjusted for the oscilloscope.
•  If a safe operation cannot be assumed any longer, the device must be decommissioned and

be secured against accidental use. Safe operation is no longer guaranteed when:

 - the device is visibly damaged,
 - the device no longer works and
 - the device was stored for a long period of time under adverse conditions or
 - the device has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.

•  Never switch the product on if it has just been brought from a cold room to a warm room. The

condensation generated could destroy the product. Leave the device turned off until it has

reached room temperature.

•  Do not dismantle the product! There is a risk of lethal electric shock!
•  Do not leave packaging materials lying around, they may become a dangerous plaything in

the hands of children.

•  The product is only suitable for use in dry indoor spaces only (no bathrooms or other wet

rooms). Shield the device from becoming moist or wet. There is a risk of lethal electric shock!

•  For installations in industrial facilities, follow the accident prevention regulations for electrical

systems and equipment of the government safety organization or the corresponding authority

for your country.

•  In schools and training facilities and hobby and self-help workshops, the use of measuring

devices must be monitored by trained and responsible personnel.

•  Consult an expert when in doubt about the operation, safety or connection of the multimeter.
•  Please handle the product carefully. It could get damaged due to impacts, blows or even

falling from a short height.

Regularly check the technical safety of the device and test leads — i.e. auf for damages

to the housing or pinching, etc. Never operate the device when open.
!RISK TO LIFE!
Never exceed the maximum permissible input values. Do not touch any circuitry or

connection points when voltages exceeding 50 V/ACrms or 75 V/DC might be applied.

Risk of fatal injury!
•  Never pull the mains plug from the socket by pulling at the cable. Always pull it from the

mains socket using the intended grips.

•  Unplug the mains plug from the mains socket if you do not use the device for an extended

period of time.

•  Disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket in thunderstorms for reasons of safety.
