Note
The entire steering column combination switch is to be renewed
if one of the above components is defective.
The airbag coil connector and return spring with slip ring - F138-
are attached to the steering column switch and are to be replaced
separately ⇒ General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr. 69 ; Driver
side airbag; Removing and installing return spring with slip ring
(coil connector) .
Fault detection and fault display:
The following components feature self-diagnosis capability:
♦ Turn signal switch - E2-
♦ Washer pump switch (automatic wash/wipe and headlight
washer system) - E44-
♦ Cruise control system switch - E45-
♦ Intermittent wiper switch - E22-
♦ Steering angle sender - G85-
Note
♦
For removal and installation of the airbag coil connector and
return spring with slip ring - F138- or the steering column
switch, the steering wheel must be in the “centre
position” (wheels in “straight ahead position”).
♦
The airbag coil connector and return ring with slip ring - F138-
is not to be moved out of position.
♦
If the steering angle sender - G85- is integrated into the airbag
coil connector and return spring with slip ring - F138- (vehicles
with EPS (electric power steering) and ESP), the steering an‐
gle sender must be reset after work has been done on the
steering column switch.
♦
If the steering angle sender - G85- is integrated into the airbag
coil connector and return spring with slip ring - F138- , there is
a yellow marking to indicate the centre position.
Removing
– Disconnect battery

– Turn steering wheel to “centre position” (wheels in “straight
ahead position”).
