– Pull cutting cord -2- through adhesive sealing material to in‐
side using awl -V.A.G 1474/2- -1-.
– Secure end of cutting cord using pull handle -V.A.G 1351/1-
to prevent it from falling out.
– Lay cutting cord around rear window and guide second end of
cord inwards.
– Attach end of cutting cord to reel device -V.A.G 1654 A- .
– Carefully insert protective backing -V.A.G 1474/8- -1- between
rear window and moulded headliner.
– Place reel device -V.A.G 1654 A- in indicated position.
– Operate reel device -V.A.G 1654 A- accordingly and cut rear
window free.
– Use wedge -V.A.G 1474/5- to press cutting cord against rear
window glass while cutting in order to have clearance at win‐
dow flange.
– In order to remove rear window that has been cut out -1-, open
rear lid -2- approx. 45°.
– Lift rear window -1- upwards off body flange -arrow a- and
swing out under rear lid -arrow b-.

Removing broken rear window
Carry out following work:
– Protect body and interior from glass splinters.
– Remove pieces of glass up to adhesive sealing material.
– Pull off connections for rear window heating and aerial.
