The Bone Mass Content
The calculated bone mass content indicates the weight of the bones in your body. This
amounts to roughly 1 to 2% of body weight. Bones are particularly hard pieces of tissue which
form the skeleton. They support the body, protect the internal organs (e. g. in the case of the
ribs, the heart and the lungs) and enable, together with the muscles, physical movement. To
ensure that you have healthy bones, it is important to eat a calcium-rich diet and to work out
regularly to build up your muscles, outdoors if possible (UV light). It has been proven that
building up muscle tissue by doing sport helps to produce stronger, healthier bones. Regular
sporting exercises preserve among other things the density of the bones and slow down the
degradation of bone mass, which begins to set in with increasing age.
The Calorie Demand
The calorie demand is defined as the basal metabolic rate which your body has in a state of
rest. It is expressed in kilocalories (kcal) and indicates the amount of energy required for vital
metabolic functions, e. g. breathing, blood circulation, digestion and activities of the central
nervous system. The basal metabolic rate varies from person to person and essentially depends
on age, gender, height and weight.
Calculating Body Fat, Water, Muscle Mass, Bone Mass
and Calorie Demand
Enter Parameters (Programming Mode)
Before the scales can calculate your body fat, water, muscle mass and bone mass content and
your calorie demand, the following parameters need to be saved in your user profile: profile
number, gender, height and age.
The parameters are entered via the buttons (below the display):
Increase a value
Reduce a value
EnTER
Switch to programming mode; confirmation of the selected value and
switch to the next parameter
•
If no entry is made for approx. 8 seconds, the programming mode is exited. The
chosen parameter stops flashing and can no longer be altered. To go back to
programming mode, press the
EnTER
button. The profile number starts to flash
again and you can continue with your entry. The values of the parameters set
previously are retained.
•
You can choose whether the weight should be displayed in kilograms (kg) or
pounds (lb) and the height in centimetres (cm) or feet and inches ('/"). Press the
small button within the battery compartment to set the units.
