BREWING ESPRESSO
ATTENTION:
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO MAKE CAPPUCCINO, PLEASE REFER TO
THE NEXT SECTION “PREPARING CAPPUCCINO.”

. Make sure the unit is switched off and unplugged.
2. Fill the reservoir with water using a container (Figure
1
) or by removing it and using the
faucet (Figure 2). If you have removed it from the unit, make sure to place it back tightly
into position. Fill the reservoir with the desired amount of water ensuring it ranges
within the “MIN” and “MAX” markings on the reservoir. Never use warm or hot water
to fill the water reservoir.
3. Close the water reservoir lid.
4. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
5. Press the power button

to turn the unit on. The unit will start the heater warm-up
cycle.The light ring around the power button will illuminate to show that the unit is on
and will pulse until the appropriate temperature is reached before returning to a steady
light. The unlock icon

of the lever will light up if lever is in the unlocked position.
6. Place the demitasse(s) on the cup warmer on top of the unit to heat.
7. Slide the filter release button backwards (Figure 3) and place the desired filter in the
portafilter. Once in place, release the button to lock the filter in place (Figure 4). To
ensure the filter is securely in place, turn the portafilter upside down.
8. Fill the selected filter with fine ground espresso or an espresso pod. Clean any excess
espresso grounds from the rim of the portafilter as this will ensure the portafilter fits
properly into the PortaSlide System. Tamp or compress espresso grounds using the
tamper as shown below (Figure 5). Do not overfill past the max fill line as this might
cause clogging or overflow.
9. Slide the portafilter into the PortaSlide System until it fits tightly into place and is flush
with the unit (Figure 6).
