3 Design and Function
• The pistons of the cylinders to be examined must be set to TDC (top dead centre)
• Connect tester to the compressed-air network
Compressed-air input must be between 6 and 12 bar
• Turn pressure regulator 2 until the pointer of the device is at 0%
• Set pressure regulator 2 in place(press downwards, same pressure for all the spark plugs)
• Screw test adapter into the spark plug thread of the engine
• Couple the test adapter to the tester (output)
• Read off pressure loss;
– Pointer moves with the green area 3 (0-23%)
– Pressure loss is acceptable
– Pointer drops over 23%
– The engine is defective
• The leak is located by listening to the sound of the air or by sensing the escaping air
Sound locating
• Intake manifold – Fault in the inlet valve
• Exhaust manifold – Fault in the exhaust valve
• Oil filler plug – Fault in piston / piston ring
• Coolant fluid- Filler neck – Fault on the cylinder head gasket
