3 Design and Function
3.4 Design and function of the pressure loss tester
Follow the instructions provided by the vehicle
manufacturer during any work you do!
3.4.1 Device components
3.4.2. Application: Pressure loss tester
Before starting pressure lost test, please remove the heat protection valve inside
of the suitable adaptor.
The VIGOR pressure loss tester is used for the diagnosis of engine defects, e.g. on inlet and
exhaust valves, pistons/piston rings and cylinder heads/cylinder head gaskets. With the pressu-
re loss tester, engine defects can be detected and located quickly.
• High pressure losses are possible for engines with less than 5000 recorded kilometres, since
cylinders, pistons and piston rings have not yet obtained their final smoothness.
• Differences between individual cylinders of up to two graduation marks (= 4% pressure loss)
are within the acceptable range.
• Required pressure for the test, 6 to 12 bar
Risk of burns when the engine is at operating state temperature, do not touch any hot parts.
3.4.3 Test procedure
• Allow engine to warm up. Apply the vehicle handbrake.
• Disassemble spark plug/injector nozzle
